Many record collectors from the 1950s and '60s have replaced much of their old vinyl with commercially produced re-mastered CDs, usually with enhanced sound or additional titles. But we have all got old LPs that have never made it to CD and for one reason or another are never likely to. If you have a computer these old LPs can be transferred to CD using a USB turntable - a cheap and easy way to get the convenience of the compact disc format. I have transferred a number of difficult to find LPs to CD and would like to swap these for any vinyl that you may have transferred to CD. My list is below and will be added to in the future... |
What I am looking for initially are any Esquire LPs and EPs that you have copied to CD. It is only recordings of British musicians that I am interested in, not the US records that Esquire issued under licence. However I am interested in any recordings by any artist listed on this website that are not commercially available on CD. A look at the individual musicians discography on the site will indicate whether recording have been issued commercially on CD...

In 1964 he returned to the UK becoming Tubby Hayes' first choice bass player. The record has never been issued as a CD. Golden Era Records, distributed by West Audio in the US issued two LPs that contain the same 24 titles. The record sleeve carries the statement that "the material on the LP comes from private recordings and there is absolutely no usage of material from commercial record companies". HH1 and HH2 - Harry Hayes and his band In the early 1990s a 2 CD set covering the HMV recordings made by the Harry Hayes Band from November 15th, 1944 to July 22nd, 1947 was issued privately by Harry. Professionally produced, the 2 CD set was not available in the shops and is now impossible to find. The details are listed by session on the Harry Hayes web page as: (# Harry Hayes 2 CD set - Harry Hayes and his Band - HMV recordings) The Bebop Preservation Society was a group originally set up by Bill Le Sage in the 1970s to keep the old bebop music alive. By this time modern jazz had moved on and bebop was becoming a forgotten sound. The group were recorded on three occasions. The first record date is generally regarded as the best of the three with excellent recording quality and an excellent choice of titles. These LPs are now as rare as hen's teeth and have not been commercially re-issued on CD... (Total playing time: 58.22) HB033 - The Ronnie Scott Orchestra (Esquire 32-006) This recording of a live BBC broadcast was one of the last records released of the popular Ronnie Scott Orchestra and no titles from it have ever been re-issued in any format. As collectors will know, this is a very rare record, and the CD has been transferred from a well used LP. The music is superb but it cannot be denied that the recording quality is not good. The music is loud and clear but some people will find the surface noise a bit of a turn off..
