These three pictures were taken during rehearsals at Al Bowlly's last recording session. The Radio Stars with Two Guitars (Jimmy Mesene and Al) are pictured on the right and below with pianist and arranger Pat Dodd. The recording took place at HMV studios at St. Johns Wood on 2 April 1941. The titles recorded were, (at HMV's request), Irving Berlin's "When That man is Dead and Gone" - referring to Hitler, and "Nicky the Greek". Two weeks after making this recording Al Bowlly was dead, killed in an air raid.... Jimmy Mesene, Pat Dodd and Al Bowlly

Song sheet cover of Jimmy Mesene

Jimmy Mesene and Al Bowlly

Jimmy Mesene does not appear on the covers of any of the published songs that he wrote, but he did get himself onto the cover of one written by Harry Saville, Art Noel and Jimmy Martin called "All the way from Ireland".

The cover shown on the left is not a very good copy. The details are that the song was published by Campbell Connolly and Co and the wording under the picture says "Featured and broadcast by Jimmy Messini of Nat Gonella and his Georgians"
