In 1960, following on the success of his first quartet album "Blue Bogey" for Tempo, Wilton 'Bogey' Gaynair recorded a second album with the same pianist and drummer plus trumpeter Shake Keane. It remained unissued for 46 years before Candid released it in CD format in 2006... Wilton "Bogey" Gaynair/Shake Keane Quintet - 1960 (Tempo) Shake Keane (tp), Wilton "Bogey" Gaynair (ts), Terry Shannon (p), Jeff Clyne (b), Bill Eyden (d). Africa Calling*/Kingston By Pass*/Blue Ghana*/Way You Look Tonight*/Just For Jan*/Rianyag*. (*Candid CD - Africa Calling) Other record dates remain unissued as 78rpm records or LPs... It is not known why these titles were not issued. Baker did not lead another band on record until mid 1951... Kenny Baker Orchestra - April 18th, 1947 (Decca) Kenny Baker (tp), Reg Owen (cl,as), Dave Shand (bs), Norman Stenfalt (p), Dave Goldberg (g), Charlie Short (b), Jack Parnell (d). Dixon's Dilemma/Blue Lou. (These titles were never issued) The Tito Burns band at this date may have included Ronnie Scott, Johnny Dankworth, Tommy Pollard, Pete Chilver and Tony Crombie. This was one of the earliest British bebop records and by the time his next record was made nearly 18 months later the star names had left the band. Only two titles were recorded on the date and were presumably to go on the same 78 record. Did the record label (unknown) get cold feet? It would have been pretty strong no holds barred bop!... Tito Burns Septet - January 18th, 1948 (? Label unknown) Tito Burns (acc), rest unknown. I Like To Riff/Oop BopSh'bam. These three titles were for the little known Harmony label and none of them have ever been issued. Sharon was a major figure in the British bop scene at this time. Harry Klein did not get another recording date until 1952 by which time he had switched to baritone sax. Again Ronnie Scott is listed in the personnel... Ralph Sharon Bobtet - November 9th, 1949 (Harmony) Harry Roche (tb), Harry Klein (as), Ronnie Scott (ts), Bob Burns (bs), Ralph Sharon (p), Dave Goldberg (g), Charles Short (b), Martin Ashton (d), Doreen Henry (vcl). Euphonia/How High The Moon/Zanzibar. Only two titles were recorded on this Esquire date - neither was issued... Johnny Dankworth Seven - February 3rd, 1951 (Esquire) Jimmy Deuchar (tp), Eddie Harvey (tb), Johnny Dankworth (as), Don Rendell (ts), Bill Le Sage (p), Joe Muddel (b), Tony Kinsey (d). Strictly Confidential/Treble Chance. Kenny Baker Orchestra - June 20th, 1951 (Parlophone) Kenny Baker (tp), unknown (cl,as), 2 unknown (ts), unknown (p), (b), and (d), female vocal. Blue Moon (voc)/On TheAlamo. (These titles are described as 'test' and were never issued). The band could be the one on the Kenny Baker recording on July, 24th 1951 that included Tubby Hayes. Only two titles were recorded on this Tempo date - neither was issued... Jimmy Deuchar Ensemble - February 1st, 1956 (Tempo) Jimmy Deuchar (tp), Ken Wray (tb), Derek Humble (as,bs), Tubby Hayes (ts), Stan Tracey (p), Lennie Bush (b), Tony Crombie (d). Worthington E/Barley Wine. In 1956 Tony Crombie recorded three sessions as leader with three different star studded groups. As far as I know not a single track from these dates ever appeared on record. Prior to this Crombie had been recording for Decca, the last date being in September 1955. After these three unissued 1956 dates Crombie did not record again as leader until 1958 when he recorded an LP for Columbia... Tony Crombie.... - April 26th, 1956 (? Label unknown) Jimmy Deuchar (tp), Derek Humble (cl,as), Tubby Hayes, Ronnie Scott (ts), Ronnie Ross (bs), Stan Tracey (p), Lennie Bush (b), Tony Crombie (d). Wrong/Danny's Hideaway/Just As You Are/My Only Sin/Some Folks Do/I'd Love To Take You Home With Me Baby. April 30th, 1956 (? Label unknown) Derek Humble (cl,as,ts), Tubby Hayes, Ronnie Scott, Bob Efford (ts), Stan Tracey (p), Dave Goldberg (g), Lennie Bush (b), Tony Crombie (d). Sometimes I Wonder/Raindrops/My Heart Jumps/I Think Of You/Something Tells Me/My One And Only Love. The titles on these two April sessions seem a bit unbalanced, most of them being ballads and the April 30th date has four tenor saxes on hand, were they intended to be some sort of mood music rather than straight Jazz? July 31st, 1956 (?Tempo) Ronnie Scott (ts), Harry Klein (bs), Terry Shannon (p), Johnny Hawksworth (b), Tony Crombie (d). Titles recorded are unknown... The Stan Tracey trio recorded two successful albums "Showcase" and "Little Klunk" for Vogue in 1958 and 1959. 13 days after recording the final tracks for "Little Klunk" he recorded an album for Decca which has never been issued... Stan Tracey Trio - June 8th, 1959 (Decca) Stan Tracey (p), Kenny Napper (b), Phil Seamen (d-1), Tony Crombie (d-2). Pitter Patter Panic(1)/Mood 13(1)/Just You Just Me(1)/Sometimes I'm Happy(2)/Moonlight In Vermont(2)/Jumpin' With Symphony Sid(2). Stan Tracey Quartet - November 20th, 1964 (Columbia) Bobby Wellins (ts), Stan Tracey (p), Rick Laird (b), Tony Crombie (d). Titles recorded are not known - none were ever issued. A year after recording "Under Milk Wood" in a quartet setting, Stan Tracey recorded it again in Hamburg Germany, adding Kenny Wheeler to the line-up. Only one title* was ever issued, as part of a compilation.
