Released as a single in 1995 'Ventolin' was a huge departure from the formulaic techno rhythms usually associated with artists such as Aphex Twin. The initial ear drum piercing frequency gives little warning of the deep metallic bass assault which soon ensues. The lack of melody in 'Ventolin' is compensated by Aphex's trademark improviseations, the beats are warped, twisted, cut, and echoed, all with purposeful intent. It is a track which is extremely difficult to listen right through but shows RDJs diversity and willingness to invent new forms rather than regurgitate old ones. Here are some more illustrations by that Dan Parkes guy. |
