Asylum for Teaching Young Females Household Work

[a building wall with the words 'Asylum for Teaching Young Females Household Work']

It really does exist. Well at least the building does, hopefully not the institution. I used to live just around the corner from here and its bizarre to think these places really served a purpose. I mean, was this some kind of corrective establishment, like an open prison for women? Or maybe simply a day school for the only female education deemed suitable by Georgian parents? And is there an Asylum for Teaching Young Males Homestead Improvement and General Carriage Maintenance? I fear not.

Should you want to find it for yourself, the building is in Bath and on the right as you head up Margaret's Hill from the Hat and Feather pub to Camden Road.

For future reference (mine mostly 'cos I keep losing the details) I've put together a short list of cheap bed and breakfast accommodation in Bath.
